PART 2 - EIGHT NINES


Step 1: Layer a light 2-1/2" square on a dark 2-1/2" square, right sides together. Sew a 1/4" seam along one side of the layered pair. Repeat this step twenty-three more times for a total of twenty-four light/dark pairs.

Step 2: Using a light/dark pair from Step 1, sew a light 2-1/2" square to the other side of the dark square as shown below. Repeat this step seven more times for a total of eight light/dark/light units. Press seam allowances toward the dark fabric.

Step 3: Using a light/dark pair from Step 2. sew a dark 2-1/2" square to the other side of the light square as shown below. Repeat this step fifteen more times for a total of sixteen dark/light/dark units. Press seam allowances toward the dark fabric.

Step 4: Sew a dark/light/dark unit to the top and bottom of a light/dark/light unit, as shown below. Repeat for a total of eight Nine Patch blocks. Press seams toward the dark/light/dark units.

Your Nine Patch blocks should measure 6-1/2" along each side. They will measure 6" when sewn into the quilt.
