Part 1 - Half Square Triangles printer friendly version | PDF Sewing Instructions: Step 1: Using a ruler and a pencil, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all Fabric B (medium light) 9-7/8" squares and all Fabric D (very light) 3-1/2" squares.
Step 2: With right sides together, layer a Fabric B (medium light) 9-7/8" square on a Fabric A (dark) 9-7/8" square and sew a 1/4" seam on EACH side of the diagonal line that you drew in Step 1. Cut apart on the diagonal lines. Press seams toward Fabric D and trim points. Repeat once more for a total of four A/B half-square triangles. Each half-square triangle should measure 9-1/2" unfinished.
Step 3: Using the illustration below as a guide, arrange the A/B half-square triangle units as shown. Using a 1/4" seam allowance, sew into rows and press the seam allowances to the left. Sew the top row to the bottom row to complete. Press the seam allowance to one side. Your block should measure 18-1/2" unfinished.
