Sewing Instructions:

Step 1:  Layer a Color E (cream) 3-7/8" triangle on a Color C (tan) 3-7/8" triangle, right sides together.  Stitch as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points.  Make 4. (Each unit should measure 3-1/2".)

Step 2:    Layer a Color E (cream) 2-7/8" triangle on a Color B (pink) 2-7/8" triangle, right sides together.  Stitch as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the lighter fabric and trim points.  Make 12.  (Each unit should measure 2-1/2".)

Step 3:   Sew a Step 2 unit to each end of a Color E (cream) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color E rectangle.  Make 4.  (Each unit should measure 2-1/2" x 8-1/2".)

Step 4:   Sew a Step 2 unit to each end of a Step 3 unit, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward inner Step 2 unit.  Make 2.  (Each unit should measure 2-1/2" x 12-1/2".)

Step 5:  Stitch a Color C (tan) 5-1/4" triangle to the left and right sides of a Color B  (pink) 4-1/2" square.  Press the seam allowances toward the darker Color C fabric and trim points.  Next, stitch a Color C (tan) 5-1/4" triangle to the top and bottom of the same Color B (pink) square, as shown below.  Press the seam allowances toward the Color C (tan) fabric and trim points.  Make 1.

Step 6:   Sew a 4-7/8" Color A (red) triangle to the upper left and lower right of the Step 5 unit, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color A fabric and trim points.  Repeat on the upper right and lower left of the same Step 5 unit, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color A fabric and trim points.  Make 1.  (This unit should measure 8-1/2" x 8-1/2".)

Step 7:  Sew a Step 3 unit to the left and right sides of the Step 6 unit, as shown below.  Press the seam allowance toward the Step 6 unit.  Make 1.  (This unit should measure 12-1/2" x 8-1/2")

Step 8:  Sew a Step 4 unit to the top and bottom of the Step 7 unit, as shown below.  Press the seam allowances toward the Step 7 unit.  Make 1.  (This unit should measure 12-1/2" x 12-1/2")

Step 9:   Stitch a Step 1 unit to the left and right ends of a Color D (green) 3-1/2" x 12-1/2" rectangle, as shown below.  Press the seam allowances toward the Color D fabric.  (Each unit should measure 3-1/2" x 18-1/2".)

Step 10:   Stitch a Color D (green) 3-1/2" x 12-1/2" rectangle to the left and right sides of the Step 8 unit.  Press the seam allowances toward the Color D fabric.

Step 11:   Stitch a Step 9 unit to the top and bottom of the block.  Press the seam allowances away from the block center.

Your block should measure 18-1/2" at this point.  It will measure 18" when it is sewn into the quilt.
