Sewing Instructions:

Step 1:  Using a ruler and a rotary cutter, cut each Color E (cream) 4-7/8" square once diagonally.

Step 2:   Using a ruler and a rotary cutter, cut each 5-1/4" square twice diagonally.

Step 3:   Stitch a Color D (yellow) Step 2 triangle to a Color A (dk blue) Step 2 triangle, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color A triangle and trim points.  Make 4.

Step 4: Stitch Color E (cream) Step 2 triangles to the left and right sides of a 4-1/2" Color A (dk blue) square.  Press seams toward the Color A (dk blue) square and trim points.  Next, stitch Color E (cream) Step 2  triangles to the top and bottom sides of the same 4-1/2" Color A (dk blue) square.  Press seams toward the Color A (dk blue) square and trim points.  Make 1.

Step 5:   Arrange the four Step 2 half-square triangles, the Step 5 unit and four 3-3/8" x 6-1/8" Color B (red) rectangles, as shown below.  Sew into rows, pressing the seams toward the Color B (red) rectangles.  Sew the rows together and press seams away from the center row.

Step 6:  Arrange two Color E (cream) Step 2 triangles on each side of a Color C (green) 3-3/8" x 6-1/8" rectangle, as shown below.  Sew the Step 2 triangles to the left and right sides of the Color C (green) rectangle.  Press the seams toward the Color C rectangle and trim points.  Next, sew a Step 1 Color E (cream) triangle to the top of the Color C (green) rectangle.  Press seams toward the Color C rectangle and trim points.  Make 4.

Step 7:   Using the illustration below as your guide, sew the Step 6 units to the Step 5 unit.  Press seam allowances away from the Step 5 unit and trim points.

Your block should measure 16-1/2" at this point.  It will measure 16" when it is sewn into the quilt.
