Sewing Instructions:
Step 1:
Using a ruler and a rotary cutter, cut two Color E (cream) 4-7/8"
squares, two Color C (green) 4-7/8"
squares, and two Color D (yellow) 4-7/8"
squares once diagonally.

Step 2:
Using a ruler and a rotary cutter, cut three Color E (cream) 5-1/4"
squares, and two Color A (dk blue) 5-1/4"
squares twice diagonally.

Step 3:
Using a ruler and a rotary cutter, cut one Color B (red) 9-1/4"
square, twice diagonally.

Step 4:
With right sides together, layer a Color E (cream) Step 2 triangle on
a Color A (dk. blue) Step 2 triangle.
Stitch together using a 1/4"
seam. Press the seam allowance
toward the darker fabric and trim point.
Repeat three more times for a
total of four Color A/E quarter-square
triangles.

Step 5: With right sides together, layer a Color A (dk
blue) Step 2 triangle on
a Color E (cream) Step 2 triangle.
Stitch together using a 1/4"
seam. Press the seam allowance
toward the darker fabric and trim point.
Repeat three more times for a
total of four Color E/A quarter-square
triangles:

Step 6: With right sides together
and using a 1/4" seam allowance,
sew a Step 5 triangle
to the right side of a Color B (red)
Step 3 triangle as shown below. Press
seam toward the Color B (red) fabric, trim points, and
repeat on the left side. Press
seam allowance toward the Color B (red) fabric
and trim points. Repeat three
more times for a total of four Color
A/B/E flying geese units.

Step 7: With right sides together, layer a Color E (cream) Step 1 triangle on a Color D
(yellow) Step 1 triangle. Stitch together using a 1/4" seam. Press the seam
allowance toward the darker fabric and trim points. Repeat three more times for
a total of four Color D/E half-square triangles.

Step
8:
With right sides together, sew
a Color E (cream) Step 2 triangle to
the left and right sides of the Color
A (dk blue) 4-1/2" square. Press
seam allowances toward the darker fabric
and trim points. Next, sew a Color
E (cream) Step 2 triangle to the top
and bottom of the Color A (dk blue)
4-1/2" triangle as shown below.
Press seam allowances toward the
darker fabric and trim points.

Step
9: With right sides together,
sew a step 1 Color C (green) triangle to opposite
sides, as
shown below. Press the seam allowance
toward the Color C fabric and trim points.
Repeat in the remaining two corners
to finish the center unit.

Step 10: Using the block image at the top of
the page as your guide, arrange the nine block units. Sew them first into rows,
pressing the seams of the top and bottom rows toward the center flying geese
units and the seams of
the middle row away from the center. Sew rows together to finish the block and
press seams away from the center.
Your block should
measure 16-1/2" at this point. It will measure 16" when it is sewn into the
quilt.
