Sewing Instructions:

Step 1:  Using a ruler and a rotary cutter, cut each 2-7/8" and 4-7/8" square once diagonally.

Step 2:   Using a ruler and a rotary cutter, cut the 5-1/4" square twice diagonally.

Step 3:   Stitch a Color D (yellow) Step 2 triangle to the left and right sides of the Color A (dk blue)  4-1/2" square, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color D triangles and trim points.  Next, stitch a Color D (yellow) Step 2 triangle to the top and bottom of the Color A (dk blue) 4-1/2" square, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color D triangles and trim points.

Step 4: Stitch a Color B (red) Step 1 triangle to two opposite sides of the Step 3 unit, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color B triangle and trim points.  Stitch a Color B (red) Step 1 triangle to the remaining two sides, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color B (red) triangle and trim points.

Step 5:   Stitch two Color D (yellow) Step 1 triangles to a Color B(red) 2-1/2" square, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color B square and trim points.  Make 4.

Step 6:  Stitch a Color A (dk blue) Step 1 triangle to a Step 5 unit, as shown below.  Press seam allowance toward the Color A triangle and trim points.  Make 4.

Step 7:   Stitch a Color E (cream) 3-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle to the left and right sides of a Color A (dk blue) 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangle.  Press seam allowance toward the darker fabric.  Make 4.

Step 8:   Using a ruler and a pencil, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all Color C (green) 4-1/2" squares. There will be a total of 8 marked squares.

Step 9:   Layer a Step 8 square on the right end of the Step 7 unit.  Sew on the drawn line.  Trim 1/4" above the seam and press seam toward the Color C (green) fabric and trim the point.  Repeat on the left side.  Make 4.

Step 10:   Arrange the pieced units as shown below.  Sew first into rows, pressing seam allowances in towards the center unit for the top and bottom row and away from the center for the center row.  Next, sew rows together to complete the block.  Press seam allowances away from the center.

Your block should measure 16-1/2" at this point.  It will measure 16" when it is sewn into the quilt.
