Cutting Instructions (for all four blocks):

Sewing Instructions:

Step 1:  Using a ruler and a water soluble marker, draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of all Fabric 6 (cream) 3-7/8" squares.

Step 2:  With right sides together, layer a Fabric 6 (cream) 3-7/8" square on a Fabric 1 (dark green) 3-7/8" square and sew a 1/4" seam on each side of the diagonal line that you drew in Step 1.  Repeat seven times more and cut apart on the diagonal lines. Press seams to darker fabric and trim points.  Sixteen Fabric 1/Fabric 6 half-square triangles made.  

Step 3:  Using the block above as your guide, place the half-square triangle units, the Fabric 3 (red) square and the Fabric 6 (cream) squares in order for each block.  Using a scant 1/4" seam, sew the units together to form rows and sew the rows together to finish the block.  Make 4 blocks.


Assembling the July -September Blocks and Borders:

Step 1:  Stitch blocks to form rows as shown below:

Step 2:  Stitch the shorter (7 block) strips the left and right sides of the quilt as shown below:

Step 3:  Stitch the longer (9 block) strips to the top and bottom of the quilt as shown below:

Step 4:  Cut eight 4" x 41-1/2" strips from Fabric 5 (plaid).  Cut four 4" squares from Fabric 3 (red).

Step 5:  With right sides together, stitch two Fabric 5 (plaid) 4" z 41-1/2" strips together along one short side.  Press seams open.  Repeat three times more for a total of four 4" x 81-1/2" strips.

Step 6:  Stitch a Fabric 3 (red) 4" square to each end of two 4" x 81-1/2" strips as shown below:

Step 7:  Sew a 4" x 81-1/2" strip to the left and right sides of the quilt as shown below:

Step 8:  Sew a border/corner square unit strip to the top and bottom of the quilt as shown below:

You now have a 88" x 88" full-size bed quilt.  If you wish to stop now, you can bind and quilt as desired OR you can come back on October 1st for the next installment in our "Many Designs of Friendship Quilt"!
