Block of the Month

Paper-Piecing Foundation for WebTV users and others having problems opening .pdf files:

You can draw your own Diagonal Stripes Paper Piecing Pattern by using graph paper and a straight edge.

Here is how:

  1. Draw a square that measures 6" on all sides.
  2. Using a ruler and pencil, draw a diagonal line from the upper left corner to the lower right corner.
  3. Using a ruler, mark the midpoint (3") on all four sides of the 6" square.
  4. Using a ruler and pencil, draw a diagonal line from the upper midpoint to the right side midpoint.
  5. Using a ruler and pencil, draw a diagonal line from the left side midpoint to the bottom side midpoint.
  6. Label the sections starting at the lower left as follows:  4 - 1 - 2 - 3.
  7. Using your ruler and pencil, draw the 1/4" seam allowance around the entire block.  The finished drawing should measure 6-1/2" on all sides.

Template Drawing Instructions:

If you want to make templates, draw the block using the first 5 steps above and cut one large section and one small section out with scissors.  On another sheet of paper, trace around on large template and add a 1/4" seam allowance to all sides using a ruler and a pencil.  Do the same for the smaller template.  Lay a sheet of template plastic over the templates.  Draw the lines onto the template plastic and cut them out.  Label the larger template "A" and the smaller template "B".
