Kentucky Patch - 12" Quilt Block
This block combines quarter-square triangles with nine-patch blocks set on point. Printer

| Cut three 5-1/4" squares and eight 2-7/8" squares. | | | 
| Cut sixteen 1-1/2" squares. | | | 
| Cut twenty 1-1/2" squares. | | |

Sewing Instructions: Step 1: With
a pencil (or your favorite marking method), draw two diagonal line from
corner to corner on the wrong side of all yellow 5-1/4" squares. 
Step 2: With
right sides together, place a yellow 5-1/4" square on top of a
brown 5-1/4" square. Sew a 1/4" seam on each side of ONE of the lines
that you drew in Step 1. Cut apart on BOTH drawn lines and press seam
allowances toward the darker fabric. Trim points. Repeat once more
for a total of eight yellow/brown quarter square triangle units. 
Step 3: With
right sides together, sew two yellow/brown quarter square triangle
units along the longest edge. Press seam allowance to one side and
trim points. Repeat with the remaining five pairs of yellow/brown
quarter square triangle units for a total of six "hourglass" units.
(Note: You will only need five "hourglass" units for this block. You
will have one left over.) 
Step 4: Using the light and dark green 1-1/2" squares, make four nine-patch units as shown below: 
Step 5:
Using your rotary cutter and a ruler, cut all brown 2-7/8" squares
once diagonally to make sixteen triangles. Sew brown triangles to
opposite sides of a nine patch block as shown below. Press and trim
points. Sew brown triangles to the remaining sides of the nine patch
block as shown below. Press and trim points. Repeat three more times
for a total of four. 
Step 6: Arrange the sections as shown below and sew into rows (Diagram 1). Sew the rows together to finish the block (Diagram 2).

Your block should measure 12-1/2" on all sides. It will measure 12" finished size when it is sewn into a quilt. |
