Quilt Express - Express Your Quilting Obsession!

Quilt Campus

Iowa Star - 8" Quilt Block

You'll need four copies of the paper foundation pattern to make the block.

 Printer Friendly Version

Sewing Instructions:

Step 1: Print out four copies of the paper-piecing pattern.  Click here for the pattern.

Step 2: Following the numbers and fabric key printed on the pattern, paper-piece four identical units.  Don't forget to shorten your stitch length on your sewing machine to make the removal of the paper easier!

Step 3:  Arrange the four paper-pieced units as shown below and sew them into rows, using a 1/4" seam allowance.

Step 4:  Sew the rows together to finish the block.  Carefully remove the paper from the back of the block.

Your block should measure 8-1/2" on all sides.  It will measure 8" finished size when it is sewn into a quilt.
